Dying Light's showcases some amazing visuals and world design! |
The graphics in this game are phenomenal, although some of the NPC and enemy models can be hit or miss. The smoke filling the sky, the great water effects and overall, highly detailed world help immerse you into the action. The atmosphere of the game is great also, it's very bleak, desolate and creepy! The first time night descends upon you is a true experience in terror. I was almost paralyzed by fear. However as you level up, get better weapons and more skills, the night becomes simply and appropriate challenge. Which feels very rewarding!
Climbing to the tops of these antennas is very nerve wracking! |
Dying Light's storyline is rather standard, as I said. But it gives you enough reason to press on. Some interesting characters and story arcs are sprinkled in here and there. The main story quests are well done for the most part. I think the biggest flaw are the tasks that NPC's give you. Most of them are gather or kill quests, but that's OK in my opinion, because getting to the quest waypoint is where the fun lies. The free running is great in this game. It gives a sense of badassness as you dart across roof-tops and make impossible jumps. It only gets better as you level up! Random encounters help spice things up-- it's 18:56, do you save the guy being beat up or try to get your mission done and back to safety before night falls?-- moments like that make the world seem even more life-like.
This is a very gory and tense game- But, in a good way! |
Overall, I think Dying Light is an incredible offering from the development team at Techland. Any fans of the Dead Island series will have a ball with this one. I can also recommend this game for fans of the survival horror genre in general. This game proves that this genre still has a lot of life left and with enough creativity, it's still possible to make a fresh feeling survival horror title. Good job Dying Light!
