Been playing Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

For the life of me, I can't understand why this game was not huge a commercial success! It has a huge game world to explore, tons and tons of quests, great character customization, decent sound and even the combat is well done.

First off the game world is just, massive. I know I could just stay in this world for hours and hours.
There is an absolute abundance of quests and side quests to do and find. Though for the most part they are fetch and kill quests, the nice, mostly voice-acted quest "hooks" make it more entertaining. It's pretty much open world although you do at times feel as if you are on a track. The lack of jumping also compounds to the closed feeling, In my opinion. But other than that, the graphics and art style are also well done.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning has a beautifully realized art style and massive open world.

The freedom to develop your character is also fantastic. You have different talent trees you can go down and mix and match as you choose. There are also tons of weapons and armor to find, ranging from the plain ol' every day staff, to the epic. Kingdoms of Amalur's itemization and character skillset customization is very refreshing, indeed. The sound is just above bad, but just below good. They get you by, although some of the sound track and effects are much better than others. All of them are far better than horrid though.

The combat is basic, but fluid. It doesn't really bring anything new to the table, but hey, sometimes tried and true is better than innovative but ridiculous. There are several different magic and weapon types that feel very different from each other. Casting a spell feels different than shooting an arrow, despite both being ranged attacks, which I find very pleasant.

The game feels like it was meant to be a multiplayer game, but the developers didn't have time to incorporate that aspect or something. As, just as with many other single player games, I get a feeling of want, to be able to share in this grand adventure with a friend or two. I really don't see why they even make single player games anymore. That, however, is a topic for another time.

In the end, it is just sad that this game didn't hit off well. I would have loved to have seen a sequel to this great game. After all, it is not everyday that you get a new IP that is actually well thought out and fun. You can get Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning and it's DLC from Steam or Origin
