Been Playing Risen 3: Titan Lords

I absolutely adored the first game, wasn't all too fond of the second, and now I am feeling a bit mixed on this one. While this game has a few good things going for it, it's pretty much open world, Has lots of content, an alright soundtrack, etc. it seems to have just as many short comings.

While the game has tons of quests, Not many feel very important. For example - An npc might ask you to go and retrieve their bag of supplies from a guard tower that is literally about 100 feet away from them and bring it back. While there are some epic feeling content, a great deal of it is just simple tasks. Although I will say, some do help to solidify the story in the game.

Umm, speaking of story...The one in this game is a bit cheesy. You are like some pirate baddy, and you and your sister (who was in the second game also) decide to go onto this island to look for..some.treasure...you discover a portal to...hell? Then some demon comes out and of course steals your soul. You wake up to some annoying dude that brought you back to life, but your soul's still trapped in the underworld, and on and on.

The graphics are ok and some of the sound is as well, The main characters voice acting is IMHO atrocious, he sounds as if they gave him no direction of the context of the lines he would be reading. Some of the other voice acting is acceptable...until your character begins to awkwardly speak his lines. If Batman caught a cold, you would have this guys voice.

The combat feels a bit cheap early on also, with enemies that just lunge at you with lightning speed, while you are just starting to attack and then you are interrupted and have to start the swing all over. or you can just hold down the parry button for the entire fight and hope the enemy assault stops soon. for an "Action" RPG it sure feels dull.

The sheer abundance of quests/tasks are simply overwhelming at first. I must have picked up at least 25 quests in the first hour of gameplay. It's literally like everytime you talk to someone they want you to find their ring or pick up their luggage at the airport...And to top it off, the jumping in the game feels strange. For the life of me, I can't figure out why jumping in a game is so hard for devs to get right. It doesn't need to be realistic or anything, and if realistic is what devs are going for, they should probably avoid demons jumping out of hell portals and stealing peoples souls...Gameplay trumps realism.

Risen 3 is not a bad game imo, it's just not a stellar game. That's all for me, Do you guys enjoy Risen 3? Let me know!
