Been Playing WildStar: Reloaded

First let me say this: WildStar is a brilliant game. What is so good about it? Great graphics, sound, gameplay, story and classes are what all the fuss is about. The graphics in this game are very stylized, very "cartoony", but in an awesome way! Colorful textures, a gorgeous-looking UI and interesting looking armor skins all help make the world look great.

The combat in WildStar is fun and fast paced
The sound is great and feels very satisfying, at least with the stalker class I played. The gameplay is  nice, particularly the combat. The game uses a fast action based combat system, it's hectic, chaotic and yet retains a structured feel. Oh, and guess what! There are healers in this game, real live healers, YAY! I am so tired of these new MMOS coming out and not having a true healer class. The game has a good overall story if you can follow it... more on that later. The classes are very well designed, the Stalker, which I play, is a unique take on a Rogue and can be a tank as well. Then there is the Engineer, which is a pet class as well as a tank, the Gunslinger is a ranged DPS or healer, The Esper is your standard-ish mage type also a healer. The Medic is a DPS or Healer, but it are more of an in-your-face, close range healer. Finally, you have the Warrior, which is, of course, a tank or DPS.

Creative and beautiful landscapes await you on Nexus
Ok, so now we know what's good with WildStar, what could have been done better? The Quests are just ALL over the place, there seems to be no flow whatsoever. It really drives me crazy, this is a complaint I had in the very first closed beta. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't at least clean up the questing a bit. The poor questing flow really makes it hard to follow the overall story, you never what quest is connecting to what, it is a bit frustrating.

Remember I said the UI is gorgeous-LOOKING? well, it's just that, it looks good but it is very clumsy feeling. The quest tracker feels ridiculous, even when set to auto-track nearby quests it will take you all the way to the other end of a zone, even when there are closer quests. There are way too many controls to set, especially considering the game uses limited hotkeys. Example, why can I not set interact and vacuum loot to the same key? And how about that movement, to paraphrase a player in game: It feels like you are wearing boots made of butter, also a complaint I had during the very first closed beta way back when. I am more of a fan of tight, precise controls and not so much this slippety-slidey crap. It feels like you are playing that ice level that you hated from any platforming game... I don't know why they have this in a game that requires precise movement like this.

But overall I would definitely recommend this game. It's absolutely adorable visuals and great combat make this game a winner, and it's free to play so no harm trying it, right? You can check out WildStar: Reloaded here.
