Been Playing Sacred 3

I must say I was a bit surprised by Sacred 3. When I first looked into the title, all the reviews seemed so negative. I can kind of understand where some of the negativity comes from, however, most of it is due to the players perception and not the game itself. I feel that people were expecting a more traditional action RPG game such as Sacred 2 or Diablo, that's not what this game is. No, this game is far from those titles, instead Sacred 3 is an action RPG that is more action than RPG (hint: think Castle Crashers, Gauntlet or something along those lines). This tended to annoy long-time series fans. But enough of that talk, let's discuss the game itself.

Some of the levels a beautiful, some are not that impressive.
I leave it for you to decide which is the case in this screen shot.

First off this game has great graphics. Some environments are stunningly beautiful, but others seem a little bland at times. Some of the UI seems a bit low quality. but that's easily looked over. The music in the game can also be hit or miss, there are some catchy tracks and other tunes are a bit blah. The story is very fantasy cliche, although I'm sure the developers intended it to be. It has some pretty funny moments that had me laughing out loud, and other times it just came off as cheesy and trying too hard.  the combat in the game is pretty well done, there are some OK animations, and it's very satisfying to take down a huge horde of monsters or a big boss. Though the combat is great, it really begins to shine when you play with others.

Standing amongst a field of gold after a frantic battle feels nice.

There's a good assortment of characters to play as well ranging from melee fighters to ranged combatants, and although I would've preferred creating my own avatar, I still found a character that I enjoyed playing. The controls feel decent, but mind you, I used a game controller and not mouse and keyboard as it did feel a bit clunky...  But I kind of expect to use a game controller in an overhead action title like this one. Overall I'm pretty satisfied with the experience, but I would not have been had I paid the full AAA price tag. I picked up the game as part of a bundle on steam that had all the Sacred titles for around 13 bucks. So given that, it wasn't a bad deal. Bottom line: if you can get this game at a decent price and have some friends to play with, it's worth giving a try.
