When starting out, coin will be in short supply. You can boost your money game by looting everything you come across. You can then sell it to shopkeepers or break it down for use in making your own armors, potions,etc. Now would also be a good time to mention that, in my experience, different shopkeepers will pay you more for things that they tend to sell themselves.
